Transforming Learning with Impact: Designing Engaging and Adaptive Experiences

Even the most thoughtfully designed courses can fall short when they fail to resonate with learners’ experiences, emotions, and the realities of their work environments. These elements are vital for promoting memory, retention, and, ultimately, action. The first of the three evidence-based approaches is the 5Di Framework for Learner-Centered Design, a structured process for creating interactive, relevant training that aligns with organizational goals and learner needs. Next is the Cognitive and Emotional Engagement Strategies. Techniques like storytelling, contextual learning, and prior knowledge activation enhance motivation and deepen retention. Finally, Cognitive Load Management for Real-World Application Methods reduces information overload, provides just-in-time resources, and designs feedback loops that reinforce learning on the job.

By the end of this session, attendees will be able to:

  • Design learner-centered training using the 5Di Framework, ensuring content is interactive, relevant, and aligned with both organizational goals and learner needs to create an engaging learning experience.
  • Analyze cognitive and emotional engagement strategies such as storytelling and prior knowledge activation, evaluating their impact on learner motivation, emotional connection, and retention.
  • Apply cognitive load management techniques to structure content, incorporate job aids, and integrate feedback loops that facilitate knowledge transfer into real-world applications.
