The eLearning Guild Releases 2017 eLearning Salary & Compensation Report

The eLearning Guild has released the 2017 eLearning Salary & Compensation Report. Based on datacollected from more than 2,600 global survey respondents, the average US basesalary of $83,139 is up 3.46% compared to the US national average of $80,359that we reported in 2016. The 2017 average annual salary for non-US respondentswas $63,103.
Note that base salary does not include other types ofcompensation variables such as bonus, merit increase, continuing educationreimbursement, or vacation.
The report, complimentary with a free eLearning Guildmembership, provides an extensive analysis of industry issues and othercompensation variables that determine salary.

The 2017 eLearning Salary & Compensation Reportdetails findings from the Guild’s salary survey. Since about 80 percent of thisyear’s respondents were from the US, the report primarily focuses on US data; italso includes a section with commentary on results from non-US respondents. Compensationfindings are broken down by variables including US state and metropolitan area,gender, industry, size of company, number of people managed, years of eLearningexperience, time in position, education level, and job focus area. Alsoincluded are the Guild’s US salary calculator (updated for 2017) and otherresources to help you begin salary research and develop an action plan forsuccessful future negotiations.
Specific findings include:
- The average US base salary of $83,139 is up3.46% compared to the US national average of $80,359 that we reported in 2016
- The 2017 average annual salary for non-US respondentswas $63,103
- In the US, California reports the highestaverage salary (at $101,799), with Minnesota ($98,969), Washington state($94,922), and Maryland ($94,102) all relatively close behind
- As in 2016, the state of Missouri again reportedthe lowest US average, at $65,694
- The US metropolitan areas with the highestaverage salaries are in California: San Jose/San Francisco/Oakland at $106,515,followed by Los Angeles/Long Beach at $101,946
- The gender pay gap remains persistent but has narrowed slightly from lastyear
- Education level has a substantial impact on average base salary,regardless of gender or geographic location
