Aha Moments from DevLearn 2025: Why Community Is Still L&D’s Competitive Advantage

For all the focus on AI at DevLearn 2025, some of the most meaningful “aha” moments had nothing to do with technology. Instead, they pointed to something more enduring: the importance of connection, conversation, and community in a time of rapid change.

As we asked influencers what stood out most, and what they said pointed to the fact that in moments defined by disruption, people are what make the difference.

Relationships are still the engine behind the work

Even as tools evolve and capabilities expand, the core driver of progress in L&D remains the same: relationships.

The ideas that move organizations forward are often sparked through conversation around sharing challenges, comparing approaches, and learning from one another’s experiences. DevLearn reinforced that the strength of the L&D community lies in its willingness to connect and collaborate.

Community turns overwhelm into certainty

What stood out to attendees at DevLearn is how quickly uncertainty and overwhelm around new tech like AI shifts when people come together.

Through discussion, shared exploration, and collective problem-solving, complex challenges become more manageable. Ideas start to take shape. Confidence builds. And what initially feels like disruption begins to feel like opportunity.

Valuable learning happens outside of sessions, too

Attendees continue to point out that some of the most impactful learning moments happen in the margins.

Quick conversations after a session, spontaneous discussions in hallways, and informal exchanges with speakers often lead to deeper insights than the presentations themselves. These moments allow participants to contextualize what they’ve learned, ask more candid questions, and connect ideas directly to their own work.

Belonging is a professional advantage

Another theme that surfaced repeatedly in our conversations with attendees is the importance of feeling part of a professional community.

DevLearn is not just a place to gather information. It’s a place to be recognized, to contribute, and to grow alongside peers. That sense of belonging encourages participation, builds confidence, and reinforces a shared commitment to advancing the field.

Small moments create lasting impact

Not every “aha” moment is tied to a big idea or breakthrough technology. Attendees commented on how at DevLearn it can also be a one-on-one conversation. A moment of recognition. Or a simple reminder of why the work matters in the first place.

These experiences may seem small, but they often leave the strongest impression. They reconnect professionals to their purpose and provide the motivation to carry new ideas forward.
