Learnnovators and Quinnovation Launch Demo Course Based on Learning Design Best Principles

Learnnovators, a leadingprovider of innovative eLearning solutions, and Clark Quinn of Quinnovation, arecognized leader in learning technology strategy, have designed and developeda course on “Workplace of the Future.” The free course is now available foruse.

The purpose of theundertaking was to demonstrate how a course, developed under the practicalconstraints of a “real-time” project, can follow best principles at every stagefrom design to development. Simultaneously, the goal is to point to new ideasabout ways to work, bolstered by the support of the Internet Time Alliance.

The course, offered as atribute to the late Jay Cross, is being shared free of charge with the learningcommunity at large, along with a series of blog posts providing a detailedbehind-the-scenes account of the entire journey. Cross was a leader on the pathto “working smarter” and founder of the Internet Time Alliance.

The highlights of theproject include the following:

• The project bakes bestprinciples into its design and development, some of which include:
  • The course is activity-based(experiential learning), with content available as a reference to be pulled bylearners if and when needed
  • It models decision-makingwithin a real-world context
  • It allows learners tomake mistakes, providing intrinsic feedback to show the consequences of theirchoices
  • The course uses no audio
  • It offers open navigation;that is, learners are free to explore and learn without any restriction
  • It uses a comic bookvisual style to enhance graphic appeal
  • It was beta tested with aclosed user group, feedback from whom was considered and incorporated
