The limited number of universities and colleges that offer an L&D course of study results in many L&D professionals being self taught. This session will be led by an individual who was given great advice, chose to seek mentors, and read lots of materials and books on adult learning. Having been in L&D since 1998, she wants to help those who are new, or maybe struggling with, the next steps to take in moving their L&D career up to the next level. There are valuable resources available, if you know where to look for them.

Participants will learn how to transition from classroom trainer, to instructional designer, to consultant. The session leader has spent time in all three roles, so she can help you gain insight into how those roles play a part in L&D and where to look for opportunities.

In this session, you will learn:

  • How to define your goals as an L&D professional
  • What is available for continuing education, societies, and organizations specific to L&D
  • What it’s like to be in the different roles
  • About the different L&D careers that are available

Audience:
Novice L&D professionals.
