Today’s constant introduction of new technologies challenges eLearning professionals to keep their learners engaged during both synchronous, virtual-classroom training and asynchronous, self-paced learning. But a recent survey found that while 50% of learning professionals had experience delivering in a virtual classroom, none of the respondents had ever used a 3D world as an alternative to classroom-based or self-paced learning. At the same time, 100% of the respondents said that exposure to and knowledge of new technologies gave them a competitive edge. Are 3D worlds a viable option for eLearning, and if so, why aren’t more learning professionals using this option?

Participants in this session will learn how 3D worlds can help eLearning courses appeal to more learning styles, support collaboration, and improve learner satisfaction. You’ll hear how Jacqueline tested SmallWorlds.com for delivering self-paced and team activities that incorporated video, Web access, and collaboration. You’ll also learn how to evaluate and implement 3D-world platforms such as SmallWorlds.com and Second Life for your own eLearning development and delivery needs.

In this session, you will learn:

  • How to evaluate the functionality of 3D-world platforms for eLearning
  • How to design and implement 3D-world activities
  • How to integrate self-paced eLearning with 3D-world activities
  • How to incorporate media assets such as video into 3D worlds
