402 Is Your Topic Like Watching Paint Dry? How to Make Dry Content Come Alive

4:00 PM - 5:00 PM Wednesday, April 20

Salon 9/10

Compliance. Policies and procedures. Technical specs. Sound like fun courses to develop? Imagine how excited your learners will be! Dry, boring content can be the bane of an eLearning designer's existence. It's tough to resist the urge to throw our hands up and say, "Well, it's dry content—there's not much we can do with it!" Dry content doesn't let us off the hook—it means we need to step up our game.

In this program, you'll learn six specific strategies to help convert dry content into a genuinely engaging course. You'll see examples of makeovers that transform content from tedious to tolerable to helpful to engaging. This involves more than just slapping some fancy graphics on it. You'll learn to dig deep into the content to find out why this information matters and build content that learners are more likely to care about ... and act on.

In this session, you will learn:

  • To protect your learners' time and attention by focusing on what will make a real impact for your learners and for your organization
  • To align your content requirements (legal, regulatory, procedural, etc.) with the actual problems your learners want help solving
  • To move past information dumps and instead prioritize stories, examples, and practical application
  • To use one simple word as your "North Star" when working with dry content
