P1 BYOD: Building Immersive AR Experiences for Learning

8:30 AM - 4:30 PM Monday, October 18

As learning and development professionals, we constantly look for better ways to create compelling and engaging experiences for our learners. One of the most powerful ways to engage learners today is with augmented reality (AR). However, like many new technologies, knowing where to use them within our learning ecosphere can be challenging. Sometimes the biggest hurdle to incorporating technology like AR is just know where to begin. The good news is that getting started is easier than ever before, and this workshop will provide what you need to make AR a part of your blended learning solution.

In this workshop, you'll take a deep dive into the process of creating augmented reality learning experiences. Together we will discuss the steps needed to plan and develop AR experiences from beginning to end. You'll explore how AR can fit as a blended piece of your training solution. You'll be hands-on designing and developing techniques to apply AR into your core curricula, staff meetings, special events, or new hire orientation. Throughout the workshop, we'll discuss what sets augmented reality apart from other tools we use. We'll build out multiple AR examples for a variety of use cases. You'll also get access to templates, resources, tips, and lessons learned to take back to your organizations and start building your own AR experiences right away. Our focus throughout will be on utilizing your existing L&D skills and how to make the minor adjustments needed for creating an effective and impactful AR experience.

In this session, you will learn:

  • How to ideate and design for AR experiences through the use of storyboarding and mood boards
  • How to plan out a successful and engaging multi-part AR experience
  • What AR tools and resources are available for development
  • Where AR fits best as a part of your blended learning solutions
  • How to become an AR evangelist

Technology discussed:

ZapWorks Designer, ZapWorks Studio, PowerPoint

Prerequisite audience knowledge:

Understanding of general AR concepts. Minor image editing capabilities. If you know how to create a PowerPoint slide or work in Storyline, you can create AR.

Participant technology requirements:

Laptop, mobile device, access to Google Drive, and the Zappar tools (Cloud Editor, Designer and App Studio)
