P15 Boots on the Ground—Implementing Workflow Learning
8:30 AM - 4:30 PM Tuesday, October 22
St Thomas A
There is a lot of talk about workflow learning—learning in the context of doing work. To use this approach we need to go beyond just thinking of instruction, and also consider highly useful, contextual, ready-to-use content that people can access quickly and directly in their workflow. We also need to look at how to strategically enable people to trust their own experience and build trusted collaboration with others so they can pool their knowledge and insights together. But how specifically can we help people think, act, and be self-reliant to fix, solve, and improve work—and learn along the way?
In this workshop you will learn how to implement workflow learning—its mindsets, practices, tools, and technologies. You’ll walk through the process of going beyond content solutions to learning in the midst of work. You’ll then explore how you can use workflow learning approaches to help employees fix, solve, and improve work using troubleshooting, problem-solving, risk-analysis, crisis response, experimentation, project alignments, and resource allocation. You will create a plan of action with direct impacts in product launches, improvements in processes, work alignments, etc. Finally, you’ll discover how to extend, integrate, or launch workflow learning platforms with your current technologies and tools like Yammer, Slack, Workplace, MS Teams, or Situation Expert.
In this session, you will learn:
- How to implement workflow learning that has direct and measurable impacts
- How to shift stakeholder and L&D mindsets about learning in-the-midst of work
- How to implement workflow thinking skills to solve, fix, and improve work
- How to design and implement tools in troubleshooting, risk-analysis, data-analytics, experimentation, process of elimination, and more
- How to select the right combination of technologies to support workflow learning
Audience:
Designers, managers, senior leaders (directors, VP, CLO, executive, etc.)
Prerequisite knowledge:
Attendees should have some familiarity with eLearning platforms
Technology discussed in this session:
