P02 BYOL: Building Gamification in Captivate eLearning
8:30 AM - 4:30 PM Sunday, June 18
Marina 6
You’ve been hearing a lot about gamification in learning, but you don’t know how to start. Which game elements will help the learners learn better, and which will distract them from what they need to learn? Don’t you wish you had a class that could help you not only to make sense of it, but also to build a real gamified eLearning lesson in Adobe Captivate?
In this hands-on workshop, you will create a step-by-step lesson in Adobe Captivate that contains gamification features that have been proven to work and that you will be able to reuse. Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced Captivate developer, don’t worry: You will be able to follow the instruction in class and work on exercises at your level. You will leave this workshop knowing how to both design and develop eLearning lessons that contain those gamification elements that really work. You will allow your learners to stay engaged in ways that sometimes only games seem to offer!
In this session, you will learn:
- When to include gamification and when you shouldn’t
- How to engage learners with game-like interactions that are content-focused
- How to include challenges to the learner in a case-based scenario
- How to track the learner’s progress and react accordingly
- How to allow the learner to move from one level of difficulty to the next
- How to award badges and points to learners based on their progress
- How to save the learners’ progress and establish a leaderboard
Audience:
Novice to advanced designers, developers, and managers.
Technology discussed in this session:
Adobe Captivate, latest version.
Participant technology requirements:
Windows or Mac laptop running Captivate; a real mouse, as you’ll be able to work much faster in Captivate than you can with a track pad; and ear buds or headphones that plug into your laptop.
