P03 Data-Driven L&D: Tools to Implement xAPI Today
8:30 AM - 4:30 PM Sunday, March 25
Salon 13
There is a barrier between the desire and need to gain meaningful data to improve learning, and the technology to do just that. Many corporate learning professionals believe the Experience API (xAPI) is difficult, technical, and complicated to use because, historically, that is what they’ve heard. Learning and development professionals need an easy way to use xAPI.
In this session, you will learn how even not-so-technical individuals can understand and use xAPI in their organizations to become data-driven. You will explore real data-driven enterprise learning cases using this proven technology and learn about getting into advanced evaluation techniques through xAPI. You’ll also get hands-on with free, open-source tools, such as xAPI Inspector, xAPI Starter Kit, and Courseware Profile, that can help you begin using xAPI immediately. It isn’t hard—come find out how to do it!
In this session, you will learn:
- A non-technical explanation of xAPI
- How using xAPI will increase the breadth of your learning evaluation techniques
- How to use powerful, free, open-source tools to begin using and making the case for xAPI back at the office
- How other corporate companies are using xAPI today to gain data-driven learning insights
Audience:
Novice to intermediate designers, developers, and managers. No previous knowledge of this topic is necessary to attend and benefit.
Technology discussed in this session:
xAPI Inspector (Google Chrome plugin); xAPI Starter Kit (simple script that even the non-technical can use); Courseware Profile (a generic but comprehensive xAPI profile for getting games, activities, video, etc., to report xAPI); and a JavaScript file you can include in SCORM packages to get xAPI reporting along with SCORM.
