P07 B.Y.O.L.: Build Stunning Mobile Content Using jQueryMobile

8:30 AM - 4:30 PM Monday, June 23

Marina 5

Building interactive web content that is mobile-friendly but void of Flash can be tricky. There are a number of great frameworks on the market that can assist in building interactive web applications. However, the learning curve on this type of technology can be long and frustrating. Do you use JavaScript or CSS3 and incorporate transitions and transformations? Do you look at using the document object model (DOM) for your projects or the new HTML5 canvas?

Participants in this workshop will learn the basics of how to smoothly integrate JavaScript and CSS3, and will explore a variety of ways to integrate and create interactive web activities. You will build an interactive web course that is mobile friendly using the popular mQuery framework. You will also incorporate audio and video productions within the web application. This workshop will open your eyes as to what is happening in the background when you create interactive web courses. This will significantly reduce the time it takes you to develop for mobile.

In this session, you will learn:

  • How to create and animate on a canvas
  • How to apply new HTML5 commands to alter images
  • How to play audio and video files using HTML5 tags
  • How to create custom JavaScript functions to add interactions
  • How to create new CSS3 rules that make stunning sites
  • How to link to external libraries or frameworks to create interactive activities

Audience:
Novice and intermediate designers and developers.

Technology discussed in this session:
A laptop using Dreamweaver, Photoshop, and access libraries (frameworks) over the Internet. We’ll provide the frameworks locally for those that may have internet access issues. We will also provide a reference book.

Student technology needs:
A laptop (Mac or PC) loaded with Dreamweaver CS5 or higher; Internet access would be also be an asset.
