Enjoy a Guided Conference Experience
The DevLearn Docent program is a resource for those interested in a guided conference experience.
A Docent is a knowledgeable guide, like those who conduct visitors through a museum providing commentary on the exhibitions. The DevLearn Docents similarly serve to enhance the conference experience for any attendee interested in expert guidance.
Those attending any or all activities will enjoy a guided experience that has been custom-built by our docents; experts in the field of learning technologies and in navigating The eLearning Guild conferences.
The program is optional and participate in the docent program can join in as few or as many of the guided activities as they’d like.
Here are a few highlights of the Program:
- An introduction to the Docent Program at the New Attendee Orientation
- A dedicated Morning Buzz session each morning, where attendees can talk about the day’s events and share reflections
- Group attendance at the general sessions, including scheduled time to debrief
- A guided tour of the expo
- Hosted lunch tables with industry experts
- Specifically selected sessions and opportunities to meet speakers afterwards
This is a great opportunity for anyone planning to attend the DevLearn Conference & Expo to add a little (or a lot) of guidance that is specifically built to enhance your conference experience.
This Year's DevLearn 2016 Conference Docents:
Karen Hyder
Principal, Kaleidoscope Training and Consulting
Karen Hyder has been teaching trainer-training programs for virtual classes and coaching online presenters since 1999. She has produced hundreds of online sessions, including for The eLearning Guild’s Online Forums, Thought Leaders Webinars, and "Best of" Webinars. Karen uses the trainer competencies of CompTIA’s Certified Technical Trainer (CTT+) to help technical trainers and subject-matter experts prepare for online sessions, master online presentation skills, and engage learners throughout sessions. She frequently speaks at industry events on using virtual classroom tools to support learning. Karen co-authored The eLearning Guild’s Handbook on Synchronous eLearning, and authored Up and Running with WebEx Training Center for lynda.com.
Karl Kapp
Professor of Instructional Technology and Director of the Institute for Interactive Technologies, Bloomsburg University
Karl M. Kapp, EdD, is a professor of instructional technology at Bloomsburg University, where he teaches game design and gamification classes. Karl also serves as the director of Bloomsburg’s Institute for Interactive Technologies. He has authored or co-authored six books, including The Gamification of Learning and Instruction. Karl co-teaches Guild Academy’s Game Design live online course, and is author of two Lynda.com courses, including the Gamification of Learning. He is co-founder of the educational game company 2Klearning.com, founder of the educational consulting firm The Wisdom Learning Group, and a TEDx speaker. Karl speaks and consults internationally, helping organizations with the convergence of games, learning, and technology.
Tracy Parish
Education Technology Specialist, Southlake Regional Health Centre
Tracy Parish is an education technology specialist in the organizational development department for Southlake Regional Health Centre in Ontario, Canada. Tracy has a diverse educational background of computer programming, adult educational training, and eLearning design and development. Since implementing the organization’s LMS, she now administrates the system and designs and develops courses to populate the system with an extensive catalog. Collaboration with hospital educators, from a wide variety of disciplines, has allowed this collection to expand to carry both clinical and non-clinical titles for staff as well as for patients.
Shawn Rosler
Lead Analyst/Project Manager—EHR CBT Dev Team, Geisinger Health Systems
Shawn Rosler, a lead analyst and project manager for Geisinger Health Systems, has been an instructional designer and developer of dynamic, interactive, and highly efficient computer and web-based training for over 10 years; he’s also a frequent contributor to industry-based publications. From adult learning theory to the real-world application of converting instructor-led training to a computer or web base, he is an evangelist for economic effectiveness.
