The Seven Cs of Driving Learner Engagement
Learning Solutions Conference & Expo 2015 - March 27, 2015
Director of Design and Development
Massive open online courses—or MOOCs—are rapidly becoming popular for education in both academic and corporate environments. However, there are many challenges associated with successfully implementing a MOOC. One of the biggest challenges, and criticisms, associated with MOOCs is the low completion rate associated with the courses.
In this session you will learn from a case study exploring how Intrepid Learning completed a series of MOOC-like courses for Microsoft that saw a phenomenal 85 percent completion rate and robust ongoing learner social collaboration engagement in discussion forums. You will explore what made this MOOC different from the many MOOCs that have traditionally suffered from poor engagement and completion. You will learn from one of the key architects of the course’s instructional design and explore learner engagement best practices: not just what they are, but why they each individually matter, and how to utilize them together to achieve truly impactful levels of engagement and learning.
In this session, you will learn:
- The seven Cs of driving learner engagement
- Best practices for MOOC instructional design
- How Microsoft was able to achieve an 85 percent MOOC completion rate
- How to promote engagement in MOOC discussion boards
