P16 BYOD: Visual Communication for eLearning
8:30 AM - 4:30 PM Monday, March 26
Your objectives are clear. Your content is organized. Your scripts are written and approved. And now you are staring, frozen, at a blank slide, fighting the urge to turn your course into slide after slide of text bullet points. You know good visuals can help with learning and make your course more appealing. But you aren’t an artist. And text bullets are easy—and quick.
Visual communications is the intersection of graphic design, information design, and instructional design. It’s not just about making the course pretty. It’s about finding the right visuals to help your learners understand, remember, and apply the information. Whether you’re trying to illustrate a concept, evoke an emotion, or increase retention, the right visuals support your instructional goals—while the wrong visuals detract from your message. In this course, you’ll learn to analyze content and determine what visual best supports the goal. Plus, you’ll learn simple graphic design techniques to execute your vision, even if you aren’t a graphic designer.
In this session, you will learn:
- How to analyze content to determine the best visual strategy for a slide
- How to combine graphic design, information design, and instructional design to sketch out an effective visual
- How to use PowerPoint to create graphics you can use in the authoring tool of your choice
- How to create a “mood board” of fonts, colors, and design styles to support your overall message
Novice to intermediate designers and developers.
