P11 BYOL: HTML5 Fundamentals

8:30 AM - 4:30 PM Tuesday, November 15

109

HTML5 is the scaffolding of all digital presentations, including most eLearning content. While there was a time when only web developers needed to know it well, the use of HTML5 is now becoming a more universal skill—and one that’s particularly important in L&D as the field moves toward more customized and interactive experiences on a wide variety of devices. Yet few eLearning developers fully understand the power and flexibility of this authoring language.

In this workshop, you’ll learn the fundamentals of HTML5 and discover how you can use it to rethink your eLearning development. You’ll discover how HTML5 allows you to author and edit your content at a granular level and customize it to your exact needs. These skills will allow you to move past basic, template-based eLearning and instead explore creating the exact eLearning experience you want.

In this session, you will learn:

  • About the most efficient tools and environments for HTML5 authoring and testing
  • How to create a proper HTML5 scaffolding for the type of application you’re creating
  • How to correctly markup text so that it is sized properly across a variety of screen sizes and devices
  • How to strategically use HTML5 comments to document your code
  • How to upload your content to a web server for public consumption

Audience:
Novice designers and developers. Successful participants will be able to use a web browser and text editor. No previous coding knowledge is necessary.

Technology discussed in this session:
HTML5, CSS, web browsers, the xAPI, API, mobile devices, and video.

Participant technology requirements:
