P01 BYOL: Exploring the Fundamentals of JavaScript

8:30 AM - 4:30 PM Monday, November 14

105

As eLearning advances, practitioners more and more frequently want to include advanced interactions and even simulation in their content. This type of content is, however, outside the scope of most development environments. Better satisfying and engaging learners requires deeper levels of interaction—and these, most often, are coded with JavaScript.

In this hands-on workshop, you will learn the foundations of JavaScript while creating education-focused apps. You will control the first app, an MP3 player, completely with JavaScript. While creating the apps, you’ll learn the syntax, structure, and possibilities of the JavaScript language. You will leave this workshop with the foundational skills you need to begin integrating JavaScript into your personal development toolkit.

In this session, you will learn:

  • To write and process JavaScript code
  • To use variables to store values
  • To control multimedia with JavaScript
  • To make comparisons with JavaScript
  • To create a full JavaScript application
  • About the abilities you need to create interactive experiences with JavaScript
  • To write fundamental JavaScript code independently
  • About JavaScript’s role in eLearning

Audience:
Intermediate and advanced designers, developers, project managers, and managers. Successful participants will be familiar with their Windows or Mac environment, text editors, and web browsers. It will be helpful to have a working knowledge of HTML code for this workshop.

Technology discussed in this session:
JavaScript, HTML5, the xAPI (Tin Can), and web browsers.

Participant technology requirements:
