Video has long been valuable in workplace learning programs, but it’s becoming an even more popular medium with the explosion of high definition (HD) video-enabled smartphones. Inexpensive still cameras now double as video cameras, and good quality HD camcorders are more capable and less expensive every year. But while affordable hardware is increasingly capable, creating videos with sufficient quality for use in the workplace can be quite challenging.

In this workshop, you will learn guerrilla techniques to shoot workplace video wherever you are, with whatever video devices you have handy. You will see examples created using guerrilla tactics, learn how they were made, and practice using those same techniques. You will learn and practice good techniques for video recording yourself. You also will learn and practice approaches for working with nonprofessional actors. You will learn key elements of videography that increase quality, and get hands-on practice with each. A live editing session, using participant produced video, will show you how to further enhance quality during editing.

• How to work with non-professional actors to produce good quality video scenes
• How to video record yourself using approaches that enhance quality
• How to use multiple perspectives to add interest, and practice this technique with others in the workshop
• The value of b-roll and how to acquire it

Participant technology requirements:
A device that records high definition (HD) video with sound, along with knowledge of how to use it. You should also be able to transfer files off the device, either over Wi-Fi, via email, or with an SD memory card.
