Measuring Learning Engagement in the Virtual Classroom

Measurement & Evaluation Online Conference 2020 - October 1, 2020
L&D has always sought to understand and foster learner engagement. It is assumed that an engaged learner will achieve better outcomes than one who is not engaged, but to really know if this is true we have to be able to measure learner engagement.
In this session we'll discuss research into the construct of learner engagement, focusing on how to apply and measure various types of engagement in the virtual classroom. We'll examine a framework to address the differences in learner experiences that result from differences in virtual environments and look at the significant changes that reflect engagement such as the evolution of comments made or the development of consensus within a group discussion. Once we better understand what matters in engagement, you'll learn various approaches to use that will maintain learner engagement and motivation in the virtual classroom. Finally, you'll leave with a toolkit on how to achieve and measure meaningful engagement in the virtual classroom.
