Too many training programs flood learners with content without regard for how they perceive, process, and mentally store it for the long term. Information overload is a significant hindrance to effective learning and retention. Fortunately, we can do something about it. Over the decades, cognitive load theory has been researched and refined. This interactive session introduces ways that learning experience designers can reduce high cognitive load.
In this session, we will explore a model of how people actually learn. We'll examine different types of cognitive load and their various causes. Additionally, we'll look at how cognitive load affects collaborative learning. Finally, you will gain practical instructional strategies you can use in your designs to reduce high cognitive load.
