Designing and developing eLearning with media is great, but it presents new challenges. Just like cooking with new ingredients, you need to figure out how new media “ingredients” work with your current “recipes.” An ingredient could dramatically change or take over a dish, it could be an accent to an already tasty flavor profile, or it could make no difference at all. When working with me¬dia for learning, you need to figure out first if you will use media as a focal point (a main ingredient) or as an accent (a spice), and then build your design and development processes around that.
In this session, you’ll learn about using media in learning through the analogy of cooking. As an avid cook and eLearning designer, Cory has noticed that cooking and creating eLearning have a lot in common. You’ll examine media for learning through the lenses of the recipe, considerations for your guests’ dietary needs and preferences, the preparation, the cook, the tasting, and the eating. By the end of the session, you’ll be able to look at media for learning in the same way that chefs look at ingredients for a meal: How do you deliver what people want and need, and make that experience enjoyable and memorable?
In this session you will learn:
- How using media for learning is like cooking
- How media can enhance (or detract from) eLearning
- How to successfully modify your eLearning “recipes” for multimedia
- How to use media to make the eLearning you produce tasty and satisfying
Audience:
Anyone interested in using media for learning.
