This course will help you learn the business elements of instructional design, including tracking and staying on budget and time, project management, facilitating challenging conversations, communicating your instructional design vision, working collaboratively, managing innovation and culture change, and developing relationships with SMEs. Course activities allow you to practice collaboratively and receive feedback. This course includes multiple resources you can incorporate into your work.

Course Description:

This course is focused on the business elements of instructional design and enables you to learn and practice advanced instructional design techniques; learn how to track your ID projects and stay on budget; practice facilitating conversations, setting expectations, and developing relationships with clients; and identify strategies for managing projects to keep them in scope.

Course Objectives: In this course, you will:

  • Discuss today’s instructional design trends
  • Create a pitch communicating your learning solution to team members, stakeholders, and SMEs
  • Discuss learning technologies and platforms
  • Document team roles and expectations
  • Practice facilitating conversations, setting expectations, and developing relationships
  • Learn techniques for managing change within an organization to support effective instructional design
  • Identify strategies for managing projects to keep them in scope
  • Identify steps and resources for developing skills and mentoring other instructional designers

Instructor:

In her current role as co-founder and president of Weejee Learning, Tracy Bissette, MEd, has created enterprise-wide learning solutions for Fortune 500 companies including DaVita, Cisco, and Abbott Labs. Prior to co-founding Weejee Learning, she was vice president of Mindworks Multimedia, where she created and guided the growth of an eLearning division. Triangle Business Journal selected Tracy as one of Research Triangle Park’s 2012 Top 40 under 40 Business Leaders, and she has been recognized in Training Magazine’s Top 125.

Additional Information:

Duration: This blended learning course combines three live instructor-led training sessions in a virtual classroom, four weeks of activities and online discussions, and a two-day in-person workshop held at the Learning Solutions 2016 Conference & Expo in Orlando, Florida, on March 13 and 14.

Tracy Bissette, MEd, is president of learning services at Principled Technologies (PT). In her current role, she advises Fortune 500 companies, NGOs, and trade associations on learning strategy and innovation, and oversees the creation and development of custom learning programs and solutions. Prior to PT, Tracy was co-founder and CLO of Weejee Learning, an innovative learning services company acquired by PT, and vice president of Mindworks Multimedia, where she created and guided the growth of the company’s eLearning division. Tracy’s prior achievements include The Business Journals’ Women in Business achievement award and 2012’s Top 40 Under 40 Business Leader award.
