202 Getting the 411 on Section 508: Accessibility in eLearning

1:00 PM - 2:00 PM Wednesday, April 20

Salon 15

Accessibility improves the learning experience for ALL participants, not only those protected by Section 508. The recent release of WCAG 2.2 accessibility standards builds upon the WCAG 2.1 update and WCAG 2.0 core standards. This volume of information and guidance comes at a price: with literally hundreds of pages in standards and explanations, where does one begin?

In this presentation, we will look into the meaning of the "reasonable accommodation" standard of Section 508, discuss the four core principles established with WCAG 2.0, and identify which of the three levels (A, AA, and AAA) work best in your organization;, providing you direction and focus in building accessibility into your learning solutions.

In this session, you will learn:

  • Why accessibility is everyone's responsibility, whether legally mandated or not
  • The benefits of making learning accessible, even for those who may not seem to need it
  • Best first steps you can take right now to make your learning solutions more accessible
  • The near- and far-future of WCAG standards
