P12 B.Y.O.L.: Visual Design for eLearning and Slides

8:30 AM - 4:30 PM Tuesday, September 29

123

eLearning is a visual medium, yet most designers have not been trained in visual design. Effective graphics in an eLearning project are essential to learning success, yet many instructional designers do not know what makes an effective graphic. Practitioners often find the visual aspect of eLearning to be challenging and frustrating.

In this hands-on workshop you will cover the components of visual design (space, image, and typography) and the foundational principles of graphic design. Using PowerPoint as your graphic editor, you will practice by applying design principles to eLearning templates and graphics. You will also consider ways to optimize graphics to promote learning. You will leave this workshop able to design with intention, rather than making random or haphazard design choices.

In this session, you will learn:

  • How to make intentional design choices that make your visuals appealing and effective
  • How to create graphics that meet your needs through layout, imagery, and typography
  • The foundational principles of visual design
  • How to design visual templates for eLearning
  • How to explain your design choices with confidence

Audience:
Novice and intermediate designers, developers, and project managers.

Technology discussed in this session:
Computer graphics for Windows or Mac using PowerPoint.

Participant technology requirements:
A laptop with PowerPoint preferred (free trials should be available). A robust graphics editor, such as Photoshop, could also work.
