P16 Design Before Developing: Getting Started with Storyboarding for eLearning
8:30 AM - 4:30 PM Tuesday, October 23
Andros B
Communicating with stakeholders is often the most difficult challenge when bridging the gap from design to development in an eLearning project. Stakeholders may approve the content as designed, but often do not fully understand how the learners will interact with the content visually and as an experience. Storyboarding is a documentation process that serves the overall design, and a way to facilitate the conversation with stakeholders before development begins.
In this workshop, you will learn how to build and use storyboards that will help you communicate every aspect of a project to your stakeholders. You will discover the role of storyboarding within eLearning, which is similar to an architect’s blueprints as a set of documents that visualizes the plan and includes all the necessary instructions to develop a project. You will begin the process on paper, visualizing a project and documenting in preparation for development. You will work with visualization techniques, style guides, development language, and more. Most importantly, you will leave this workshop able to use this process to communicate to stakeholders and become more efficient in the overall design process.
In this session, you will learn:
- How to create your own visual library for storyboarding
- How to document instructional flows and behaviors
- How to develop a companion style guide in support of the storyboard
- How to leverage the storyboarding process to communicate with stakeholders
- How to identify design considerations before transitioning to development
- How the storyboarding process can streamline development and save time
Audience:
Novice and intermediate designers, developers,
and managers with a general understanding of instructional design methods and
models.
Technology discussed in this session:
Whiteboard and FlipCharts.
