P12 BYOL: JavaScript Development for Digital Learning
8:30 AM - 4:30 PM Tuesday, October 24
Montego C
eLearning is lagging behind other digital disciplines. Why? While most learning development pros use limited tools to develop learning content, other digital disciplines have discovered JavaScript. JavaScript provides the power to create fully interactive digital solutions that can provide not just evaluation, but simulation, and extended interaction. JavaScript is easy to learn while extremely deep and powerful. It’s the perfect language to add new levels of depth to your learning content.
In this workshop, you’ll learn the basics of the JavaScript coding language. The session will not only examine the JavaScript syntax but also look at practical applications for learning. You’ll begin by learning the foundational concepts that make JavaScript—and any programming language, for that matter—function. You’ll then use actual code to develop simple learning applications and games. You’ll leave this workshop able to immediately apply JavaScript concepts to your daily work, and you’ll have the foundation you need to continue to deepen your skills with more advanced JavaScript topics on your own.
In this session, you will learn:
- How JavaScript can enhance the learning content you create in valuable ways
- How to use JavaScript to create custom learning interactions
- How to run, debug, and output dynamic content with JavaScript
- How to include “services” to integrate real-time data in your JavaScript
- How to write basic JavaScript programs independently
- How to configure more advanced JavaScript code in your work
Audience:
Novice to intermediate designers and developers.
Technology discussed
in this session:
JavaScript, HTML5, xAPI (Experience API, aka Tin Can), and
web browsers.
Technology required:
Mac,
PC, or Linux laptop with a text editor and a web browser.
