P03 Ten Steps to Realistic Project Management

8:30 AM - 4:30 PM Monday, September 28

122

As our multi-tasking and highly matrixed organizations initiate large piles of projects that never get traction, it’s left to the individual practitioner to prioritize, scope, mitigate, plan, and finish projects. But how can you start or finish a project when your overwhelming list of projects is in addition to your everyday job responsibilities? What you need are cheat sheets—quick, simple ways to start, plan, manage, evaluate, and end projects.

In this workshop you will learn lean and mean project management processes and techniques and tools to focus and finish your projects. You will receive templates for quick project charters and plans and you will complete a project charter for one of your own real projects. You will receive valuable feedback from your peers and the facilitator on how best to manage your projects as well.

In this session, you will learn:

  • How to create a project charter
  • How to develop a detailed work plan to accurately determine the project completion date
  • How to effectively influence project stakeholders and the sponsor
  • How to create criteria for monitoring and reporting progress

Audience:
Novice designers, developers, project managers, and managers. Some understanding of how learning is developed (ADDIE, SAM, or LLAMA, for example) is useful.
