Mobile Web applications or mobile Websites are custom-built sites designed and developed for access via a mobile device. Today, access suffers from interoperability and usability problems. Interoperability issues result from the platform fragmentation of mobile devices, mobile operating systems, and browsers. Usability problems center on the small physical size of the mobile phone such as limited-resolution screens, user input, and operating limitations. Accessing the Web from mobile devices has many limitations, depending on the phone used. There are a number of things to consider when deciding to develop a mobile Web application instead of a mobile native application.
Participants in this case-study session featuring two example projects will learn about a Master's-level instructional design class's experience in developing instruction for the mobile Web. You’ll learn the student’s reflections and experiences culled from interviews and surveys on design issues, and the challenges and lessons learned from this experience.
In this session, you will learn:
- The Design and Usability guidelines for designing mobile instructional Websites
- The mobile instructional design experiences of instructional-technology graduate students
- How to design mobile instructional Websites using Adobe Dreamweaver
Technology discussed in this session: Adobe Dreamweaver to build Mobile Websites, tested on iPod Touches.
Audience: All levels of designers, developers, project managers, and others who want to teach mobile learning design and development. This session focuses on design factors rather than the technical aspects of development.
