Julia Galef

President

Center for Applied Rationality

Julia Galef is the co-founder and president of the Center for Applied Rationality (CFAR), a nonprofit organization training people in cognitive science-based strategies for improved decision-making. In her spare time, she hosts the biweekly Rationally Speaking podcast, which features in-depth conversations with scientists, philosophers, and social scientists. Ms. Galef’s background is originally in statistics, with a degree from Columbia University, and she did social science research at Columbia and Harvard business schools for several years before becoming a writer for outlets such as Slate, Science, and Scientific American. Her organization, CFAR, was founded in 2012 to give people more understanding and control of their own decisions and behavior. Ms. Galef says she is most interested in how to change one’s mind.
