P12 Design Thinking: Learning and Applying it in Your World
8:30 AM - 4:30 PM Tuesday, October 22
Jamaica B
Understanding the world around us and creating better futures for our stakeholders, users, and team is critical. We all want to produce amazing solutions and have the challenges of complexity, change, and emerging technologies and needs to consider. Design Thinking (DT) is a methodology with a set of tools and practices that enables us to explore, ideate, collaborate, explore, and refine problem and solution spaces. DT allows us to constructively, creatively, and iteratively explore, define, refine, and ultimately produce solutions that have impact and meet the needs and expectations of users. DT is applied to many spaces and can be effectively applied to learning. DT techniques can be used from designing learning experiences, to designing the learning organization, or even the learning ecosystem.
This workshop will walk you into Design Thinking (DT) and prepare you to apply it to your daily practice after you leave. We will focus on empathy and the mindset required to approach it. A range of different tools will be taught and applied in a hands-on way. You will work on actual problems/solutions using the tools as you learn and apply them to your own space. Specific focus will on DT tools that you can apply to learning organizations. Best practices and tips to quickly get moving with DT and applying it practically will be covered to provide you momentum as you return to your daily practice.
In this session, you will learn:
- What Design Thinking is
- Mindsets necessary for success
- Processes to apply DT
- A range of DT tools to apply
- Best practices, tips, and tricks to bring DT to practice
- How to apply additional tools and practices
Audience:
Designers, developers, managers, senior leaders (directors, VP, CLO, executive, etc.)
Technology discussed:
Paper/digital-based canvases for Design Thinking, virtual whiteboarding tools, virtual Design Thinking collaboration tools
