Robert Ballard

Robert Ballard is a scientist and an ocean explorer. Among the most accomplished deep-sea explorers, he is best known for his historic discoveries of hydrothermal vents, the Titanic, and the German battleship Bismarck. He has conducted more than 120 deep-sea expeditions using the latest in exploration technology, and he is a pioneer in the early use of deep-diving submarines. Dr. Ballard has promoted distance learning around the world with the JASON Project, a program that reaches more than one million students and 25,000 teachers annually. His books include Archaeological Oceanography and Titanic: The Last Great Images.
