This article covers where to find information about the best platforms, software, and sources of advice available in 2023 for video production, or at least the best according to published reviews. There are thousands of reviews, hundreds of products, dozens of conferences, seminars, and blogs covering the lot online. The objective here is to save you time rather than overwhelm you with choices.
Development Platforms
First, I looked for platforms that provide flexible and comprehensive features to support video development rather than support for the execution of individual tasks. Video production requires all-around support and coordination of different workflows. I found three platforms that professional in-house video producers use and often recommend. Two of the platforms are expensive, and all of them require time to learn and to adjust to your team’s abilities. I recommend taking advantage of the free trials they offer as part of your decision-making and selection processes.
Smart Sheet
Smartsheet is a platform for dynamic work, which pretty much sums up the nature of video production projects. It will help you manage projects, automate workflows, and rapidly build solutions at scale through supporting team collaboration. Many organizations use Smartsheet to manage video production, pre-production, and post-production. It includes over 200 templates to assist project management and offers a 30-day free trial. Smartsheet is not cheap, but it also supports managing the production crew, selecting on-camera talent, editing, and effects.
Monday.com
Organizations use Monday.com to ensure cross-team collaboration for successful end-to-end project planning and execution. Like Smartsheet, Monday.com is a platform, not so much software for task execution. Collaboration is a vital support for video production, and Monday provides specific features and functions for such projects. It offers a 14-day free trial.
Notion
Notion is a freemium productivity application. It provides organizational tools to support task management, to-do lists, bookmarking, and more. It is a uniquely powerful product in the opinion of many users. Video producers (such as YouTube video producers and others in small organizations) use Notion’s organizational tools in their work for project tracking. There is a big learning curve to conquer in developing these adaptations in Notion, but there are a number of YouTube videos and a large user community that can help you learn how to master its features and capabilities.
Software Review sites
These are trustworthy sources of information about product features, benefits, and other important details you need to know about when looking for video production software. There is some duplication in the software included between the four sites, each one includes software that may not appear on the others, and each one works a little differently, so it would be a good idea to search all of them.
